What is water safety education?
Water safety education involves topics on water-based activities. It is used to help understand risks and improve skills. The goal is to improve safety and decrease injuries and drownings.
Why is this important?
In the United States (U.S.), children ages 1–4 die from drowning more than any other cause of death.
Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death in children ages 5-14 in the U.S.
An estimated 11 deaths per day occur in the U.S. by drowning.
Many racial and ethnic groups face higher drowning rates than white individuals.
